AG's decision to take over Woyome's property unlawful - Lawyers
Lawyers for embattled businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome have said the decision by the Attorney General to auction his property is a show of utter disrespect to the countrys rule of law.
This comes on the back of the Supreme Court ruling that the Ghc51million money which Mr Woyome received from the state as a result of a judgment debt was acquired from an unconstitutional and invalid contract and should therefore be refunded.
The AG’s department in a letter signed by Mrs Dorothy Afriyie Ansah, a Chief State Attorney said Mr Woyome should grant access to the officers from the Valuation Division of the Lands Commission on Thursday June 2, 2016 at 10am.
But the lawyers for Mr Woyome have said the directive is a total disregard for the matter pending in court adding that "It is remarkably curious that rather than ensuring that the pending matter before the court is determined, you have elected to ignore simple rudimentary procedure and in an inordinate haste, proceeding to have the said properties valued on the blind side of UT Bank."
"It is quite surprising that as the principal legal advisor to the government, you elect to ignore the rule of law – the very foundation upon which the 1992 constitution of the republic of Ghana creates your good office and rather place premium on “booby trap’’, the lawyers said in a reply letter.
They added that they are "unable to agree with your attempt to oust any notice to UT Bank and to the extent, the total disregard for the pending matter in court touching and concerning the subject matter under reference."
