Kerr: Curry the MVP for a reason

Steve Kerr hailed Stephen Curry's performance in the Golden State Warriors' win in game four of the NBA Finals, labelling it as another reminder as to why he was voted the unanimous MVP.

Questions had been raised over Curry's fitness and form after he struggled in the first three games of the series against the Cleveland Cavaliers, failing to surpass 20 points in any of those contests.

But he responded in emphatic fashion on Friday, going 7-13 from the three-point line as he racked up 38 points to guide the Warriors to a 108-97 road victory, giving Golden State the chance to clinch a second successive NBA title on home court at Oracle Arena in game five on Monday.

Kerr was not surprised by Curry's contribution, saying: "He's Steph Curry. He's the MVP for a reason. He doesn't have the size and the strength to dominate a game physically, so he has to dominate with his skill, and that's not an easy thing to do because your shot sometimes isn't going to go in.

"But he has a lot of faith in himself, and he trusts his shot and he just kept firing, and they went in."

Curry praised the team's execution as a key reason for their superb response to a 120-90 loss in game three, adding: "Obviously it's a big game, and one we needed to bounce back individually as a team to figure out how to get a win on the road and put ourselves in pretty good position.

"So, you know, we answered the bell, especially in the first quarter, controlling the pace of the game and not losing it like we did in game three.

"And for 48 minutes we executed a lot better, and I think we got back to enjoying the process and the challenge of winning playoff games, especially in the Finals."
