Kevin Magnussen Belgian Grand Prix crash update

Kevin Magnussen says he will be fit for the Italian Grand Prix next weekend after walking away from a big crash at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit on Sunday.

The Renault driver lost control and ploughed into a tyre barrier at 180 miles per hour on the run up to Raidillon during lap six of the Formula One Belgian Grand Prix.

The 23-year-old Dane limped away and, despite being taken to hospital, it was revealed he sustained only an ankle injury.

The race had to be stopped due to damage sustained by the barriers in the crash, Nico Rosberg of Mercedes eventually going on to win from pole.

Magnussen later claimed he will be fit to race in Monza.

He tweeted: "Thanks for all your messages folks! On my way home now with a sore ankle but will be ready for Monza."
