Kevin Magnussen crash cuts FP3 short

Red flags were brought out 13 minutes from the end of Saturday's session after Magnussen ploughed into the wall on his exit from turn seven on an installation lap. Damage to the back and front end means Magnussen's mechanics have a busy day ahead of them.

Stewards were also on track after the session was abandoned, checking the strength of the concrete wall that Magnussen careered into.

The Dane had earlier found himself in the firing line, running into Nico Rosberg's way as Mercedes' championship leader had looked set to become the first man of the weekend to dip below one minute 14 seconds.

Magnussen's slow-moving presence put the German off his stride at the final turn, before he held Sebastian Vettel up later in the lap, prompting an angry radio message from the Ferrari man.

Vettel subsequently hit the 1:13s mark, his 1:13.919 the quickest lap of the session, although spots of rain and Magnussen's accident meant any final clues for qualifying were left in the cars rather than on the track.

Max Verstappen proved the red Bull's improved capabilities, getting within three tenths of Vettel on ultrasoft tyres, with Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton lurking in the top five, without pushing to their upper limits.
