England appear to have confirmed Gloucester wing Jonny May will miss the Six Nations.

May's involvement had been in serious doubt after it was confirmed last month that he would require surgery on a "significant" knee injury.

The 25-year-old limped off during a 39-39 Premiership draw with Harlequins at Twickenham, raising concerns that he would be ruled out of the Six Nations, which England begin against Scotland at Murrayfield on February 6.

And, tweeting on Thursday, England looked resigned to preparing for the championship without the wideman, capped 19 times for his country.

"Unfortunately looks like Jonny May will miss the @rbs_6_nations. Wishing you all the best for your recovery," read a post from the official England Twitter account.

May started three of England's four matches at the Rugby World Cup.
