The leading player in the ICC's T20 batting rankings, Kohli exhibited tremendous form on his country's recent tour of Australia - following up two ODI hundreds with 199 runs from three innings in the 20-over matches that followed.

However, Kohli will sit out a trio of home T20s against Sri Lanka this month, which serve as India's final preparation for the global tournament they will host from March 8.

Left-arm spinner Pawan Negi is the only uncapped player in a 15-man squad announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar returns after missing the Australia series with a fractured thumb, while Manish Pandey - who made a century in the fifth ODI against Australia - also returns to the T20 fold.

Rishi Dhawan, Gurkeerat Singh and Umesh Yadav miss out on selection.

India's first T20 against Sri Lanka takes place next Tuesday in Pune, with subsequent matches taking place in Ranchi and Visakhapatnam.
