Ladies downhill at Crans-Montana cancelled

The FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup women's downhill meeting in Crans-Montana has been cancelled due to soft snow conditions.

Originally scheduled for Saturday, the event was delayed by a day as a result of too much snow, with the alpine combined race that was due to take place on Sunday cancelled and not replaced.

However, after further investigations of the course, the FIS decided to cancel the event for safety reasons.

American Lindsey Vonn, who is top of the standings in the women's downhill with 500 points and the overall rankings, posted on Twitter: "Bummer we couldn't race today but I agree with the @fisalpine decision. It was not safe to race.

"Also I want to thank the organisers and workers for working so hard to try and have these races. Mother Nature just didn't cooperate."

No confirmation has been provided as to whether the race will be rescheduled or removed from the calendar.
