Landmark win for Huetter, Gut closes on title

Lara Gut appears almost certain to land the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup title after a fifth-placed finish in Lenzerheide on Saturday.

Cornelia Huetter claimed her maiden FIS Alpine Skiing??World Cup victory in Saturday's super-G race at Lenzerheide, as Lara Gut moved to the brink of securing her first overall title.

With Lindsey Vonn out for the season, Gut was able to extend her advantage at the top of the overall standings to 67 points with a fifth-place finish.??

Crucially, Gut is now 295 points clear of her nearest active rival,??Viktoria Rebensburg, who came home 18th on Saturday.

Gut is also well placed to claim the super-G crystal globe, the Swiss now just 19 points behind Vonn with one race remaining in the discipline, during next week's season finale in St Moritz.

Yet the star of the latest race was 23-year-old Austrian Huetter, who recorded a time of 1:14.52 and still retains faint hopes of winning the super-G title herself.

Hutter finished a tenth of a second ahead of Switzerland's??Fabienne Suter, with another Austrian,??Tamara Tippler (+0.35secs)??completing the podium.

Tina Weirather (+0.42) finished fourth, with Gut 0.58secs off the pace.
