Langer to stand in for Australia coach Lehmann

Former Australia batsman Justin Langer will lead the side during next year's tour of the Caribbean as head coach Darren Lehmann takes a break.

World champions Australia are due to travel to the West Indies for a one-day international tri-series against their hosts and South Africa in June 2016.

Langer, a veteran of 105 Test matches during an esteemed playing career, is currently coaching Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield and Matador Cup as well as Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League, and is seen as a likely permanent successor to Lehmann.

Lehmann has previously expressed his belief that Langer will one day coach the national side, and heaped praise on his former team-mate following Sunday's announcement.

"There's no immediate plans at all [to step down] but it just gives me a longer break," Lehmann said.

"He will do a great job and the blokes are really comfortable about that, we've spoken about it and everything is fine.

"We've got a really good system at the moment, we seem to be playing well.

"Now it's a case of developing other coaches under you all the time and making sure they've got opportunities as well.

"I think his record speaks for itself as a coach.

"It's just a good chance for him to get back into the system and get to know the lads again."
