The Food and Drugs Authority has vowed tougher sanctions on importers of substandard products into the local market.

“The importers and manufacturers need to be told the importance of taking responsibility for the quality and safety of what they put on the market," she said, the Daily Graphic quoted her as saying.

“So, if I decide to put this product on the market, I should know that I am fully responsible for the product from the time it enters the market until the time it is finished,” she said.

In recent times, the FDA has intervened to halt the sale of fake products on the market.

In January, it halted the distribution and sale of all Blue Jeans Energy Drinks over branding error.

Also, in December 2016, the FDA commenced investigations into the alleged sale of plastic rice on the market.
