Can Kotoko end poor results against WAFA?
Struggling defending champions of the First Capital Plus Bank Premier league, Kumasi Asante Kotoko will play West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) on match day 23.
The two teams lost their last league matches and are anxious to lock horns to put smiles on the faces of their fans.
Asante Kotoko lost 3-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for the first time in 45 years against Berekum Chelsea, whereas WAFA were humbled 2-0 by New Edubiasi in Cape Coast.
Kotoko defender, Eric Donkor said the players are not responsible for the club consistent poor results this season, while his manager David Duncan says the team was not "well set" when he took over from Didi Dramani.
The blame game will be put to rest for now as the team look to boost their chances of avoiding the relegation zone when they play West Africa Football Academy on Wednesday in Sogakope. They [Kotoko] have amassed a total of 29 points from a possible 66 and are only three points above relegation zone and must get over the annihilation suffered at the hands of Berekum Chelsea last weekend against a wounded WAFA side.
WAFA were beaten 2-0 by New Edubiasi and they will look to return to winning ways on their own turf.
WAFA coach, John Killa was reported to have spat at fourth official F.D Ocansey during an altercation for a foul on one of his players he believed the referee bluntly ignored and was sent off, but the club has swiftly discredited those media reports.
John Killa will serve a touchline ban and the boys will have to do without the Dutch tactician against dispirited Kotoko side who are like orphans.
WAFA have slipped to 5th on the league log after winning only 3 games in their last seven games.
Their quest to pile more pressure on AshGold, Berekum Chelsea and Aduana Stars who will all face tricky test against New Edubiasi, Wa All Stars and Liberty Professionals respectively will be on the balance.
TEAM NEWS:
John Killa will serve a touch line ban, but the playing body could have Ghana U -20 star Samuel Tetteh back after his trial with Denmark side, Mittydjland.
David Duncan could also welcome his leading goal poacher Ahmed Toure back to his starting eleven. He was dropped in last weekend's game against Berekum Chelsea.
