Mets extend streak, Phillies edge Cleveland
The Mets have now won their last seven games and 12 of their 13 runs came in the third inning, the largest single-frame output in franchise history, as Yoenis Cespedes notched six RBIs with a two-run single and a grand slam.
It was a lot tighter in Philadelphia where the Phillies needed 11 innings to get a 4-3 win over the Cleveland Indians, with Ryan Howard striking the walk-off shot for a fourth-straight win.
The Baltimore Orioles made it two from two against the Chicago White Sox, prevailing 6-3, as the Chicago Cubs scored their 17th April win - matching a franchise record - in a 6-1 drubbing of the Atlanta Braves.
The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-1, the Boston Red Sox edged the New York Yankees 4-2 thanks to a late show, the Texas Rangers against the Los Angeles Angels by the same scoreline and the Detroit Tigers ran out 9-2 winners over the Minnesota Twins.
The Toronto Blue Jays responded to their sweep against the White Sox with a 6-1 drubbing of the Tampa Bay Rays as Aaron Sanchez threw seven scoreless innings, while the Miami Marlins improved to 11-11 for the season with a 6-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers and the Washington Nationals snuck past the St Louis Cardinals 5-4.
Elsewhere, Trevor Story was at it again as he struck two homers in the Colorado Rockies' 9-0 shutout of the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Oakland Athletics left it late in their 7-4 win over the Houston Astros, while the Kansas City Royals knocked off the Seattle Mariners 1-0 and the San Diego Padres beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1.
