Martin spent too long in the sauna, causing him to pass out in the shower and injure his left knee on the way down, according to the Blue Jays catcher and manager John Gibbons.

Martin - who did not suffer any structural damage - was not in the line-up for Friday's game against the Seattle Mariners.

"The next thing I know I'm on the ground," Martin said after feeling "woozy" in the sauna.

"I had dropped the shower hose on my face and I’m on the ground … I woke up and I had the shower curtain half on my body.

"I just sat in the locker room for 10 minutes, completely drained. It was scary, but I guess it could have been worse."

He added: "It's [knee] probably going to be sore, but I've played through soreness before. Knowing that there's no structural damage kind of puts my mind at ease.

"It's just going to be one of those years where I have to grind it out."

The 33-year-old is hitting .228/.317/.338 in 81 games in his second season in Toronto.

Josh Thole started behind the plate on Friday.
