Moeen Ali spins England to victory over South Africa A

Moeen Ali took six wickets as England wrapped up their preparations for the first Test in style by beating South Africa A by an innings and 91 runs.

With the opening Test in Durban beginning on Saturday, the final tour game in Pietermaritzburg handed the tourists a last chance to impress and Moeen grasped the opportunity with 6-77.

After Mark Footitt (1-38) had struck with the first ball of the final day, Moeen quickly trapped Quinton de Kock (53) and Rilee Rossouw (32) lbw to reduce the hosts to 107-5.

De Kock and Rossouw had looked fluent in their 67-run partnership for the fourth wicket, both men playing with a positive intent and the former reached his half century off just 56 balls.

However, once they had fallen, South Africa A began to crumble.

Steven Finn (2-30) - who snared four wickets in the first innings - got himself in on the action with a double of his own as he continues to press his claims for a start in the first of the four-Test series after recovering from a stress fracture in his foot.

Moeen then returned to clean up the tail and complete an impressive win for Alastair Cook's men as South Africa A were bowled out for 187.

"It's [been] perfect," he told Sky Sports News. "Everything from the toss really, bowling first with overhead [cloudy] conditions, then batting in the sun and then today was overhead again.

"It was a very good test, they are a very good side. They're bowling attack was good and their batters were good so I think it was perfect, the preparations have gone really well.

"Obviously we've come to win [the series], it is going to be very tough, South Africa are a tough side.

"We are not getting carried away, we know it's only two [practice] games, but we'll be ready for Saturday."
