The Italian recorded a lap of one minute and 47.696 seconds, almost half a second quicker than his closest challenger - the man who will replace him at Ducati next season, Jorge Lorenzo.

MotoGP standings leader Lorenzo (Yamaha) was second fastest, 0.461secs off the pace.

Iannone's team-mate Michael Pirro (+0.549) was third to complete a good day for Ducati, while Suzuki's Aleix Espargaro rounded out the top four.

Marc Marquez of Repsol Honda and Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) - Lorenzo's closest title challengers - were fifth and sixth respectively as the Mugello circuit dried out.
