After claiming his first World Rally Championship win since 2014 on Sunday, Hyundai admitted they fitted Neuville's i20 car with the wrong rear side windows in Sardegna, resulting in a €50,000 fine.

Team boss Michel Nandan, who said the illegal windows were used in all of their 2016 cars, conceded Hyundai made a mistake, with the windows different to those submitted in photographs in the homologation form.

Event stewards were told the new windows were 17 grams lighter on one side and 19g lighter on the other.

Earlier in the day, Belgian Neuville triumphed over Jari-Matti Latvala by 24.8 seconds at the four-day rough road event.
