Supreme Court judge, Justice Sophia Akuffo has been confirmed as the next Chief Justice

The Women in Law and Development in Africa (WiLDAF Ghana) has congratulated Her Ladyship Sophia A.B. Akuffo for her appointment as the Chief Justice of Ghana.

According to WiLDAF, "As a Women’s Human Rights Organization whose efforts are directed towards championing substantive equality for women and men, we consider this feat as another significant milestone especially for Women's Participation and Representation in Public and Political sphere."

Supreme Court judge, Justice Sophia Akuffo has been confirmed as the next Chief Justice.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo told the media at a news conference at the Flagstaff House Friday, that he considers Justice Sophia as the best person to lead the judiciary at this time in history.

However, WiLDAF in a statement said "It is our hope that she will use her new position to advance women and girls rights issues when she is approved by Parliament and continue to serve as a positive role model to women and girls.

"We also commend President Akuffo Addo for appointing a woman to succeed the outgoing Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Theodora Wood," the statement added.
