Doug Bracewell has suffered a calf injury that will sideline him for New Zealand's crucial second Test against Australia.

New Zealand pace bowler Doug Bracewell has been ruled out of the second and final Test against Australia with a shoulder injury.

Bracewell experienced discomfort during the Black Caps' dismal innings and 52-run loss to Australia in the first Test in Wellington.

A subsequent scan has shown a strain to his rotator calf muscle in his shoulder and he is forced to sit out in Christchurch when New Zealand attempt to level the two-match series, starting Saturday.

"Doug has been a consistent performer for us this summer and put a lot of work into his game, so to miss out on the final Test against Australia is very disappointing for him and us," New Zealand coach Mike Hesson said.

"He'll be given time to recover and we'll work with him to get him back training as quickly as possible."

Bracewell was at the centre of a contentious decision on day one of the first Test when he bowled Adam Voges on seven, only for umpire Richard Illingworth to wrongly call a no-ball.

Voges, who was on seven at the time, went on score a brilliant 239 as Australia dominated proceedings.
