Smarttys ordered to refund GH¢1.9 million

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah has ordered the Attorney General and Minister for Justice to recover GH¢1.9 million from Smartty’s Management Limited for the rebranding of  116 buses.A statement from the Flagstaff House on Thursday indicated that the directive was given upon the Chief of Staff's receipt of the Attorney General’s report on the spraying and branding of 116 new buses procured for the Metro Mass Transit Company Limited.The GH¢1.9 million is said to be excess payment made for the service rendered.

Ghanaians to suffer tax increments on petroleum products

Parliament, Wednesday, approved an emergency Energy Sector Levy Bill even in the face of intense opposition by the minority. According to the minority in Parliament, the levies will compound the woes of the already burdened Ghanaian. The Bill which takes will immediately impose more taxes on petroleum products which will see the Road Fund levy move from GHC0.07 per litre to 0.40 per litre. According to the Finance Minister, the urgent bill is to restructure, re- nationalize and consolidate energy sector levies to promote the prudent and efficient utilization of proceeds derived from the levies to facilitate sustainable long-term investments in the energy sector.

Tipper truck skids and kills pregnant woman, 5yr-old girl in Berekum

Residents of Berekum witnessed a tragedy at mid-day on Wednesday when a tipper truck skidded off the road, in the driver’s attempt to save someone who crossed his path and killed a pregnant woman and a girl-child, aged about five years. The truck which was loaded with sand broke the wall of a house and another wall of the Total Filling Station before stopping but not before killing the two in the process and injuring a 37-year old man identified as Bugri Tia. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Berekum Holy Family Hospital morgue while Tia is also at the same hospital receiving treatment.

Rooney move to China would be 'great' - Gyan

Asamoah Gyan says Wayne Rooney would take the Chinese Super League to another level  if the Manchester United striker joins Shanghai SIPG. Rooney, 30,  is being offered an eye-watering £75million deal to be reunited with Sven Goran Eriksson in China. The Chinese Super League side want the Manchester United striker to become their poster boy and are ready to give the 30-year-old a three-year contract worth up to £25m per season.
