Police accidentally shoot two brothers
Police in Mampong in the Ashanti region have mistakenly shot and killed two people at the Mampong Midwifery Training College. The incident happened at dawn on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, killing Francis Benneh, a teacher at the Midwifery and Health Assistants Training School (HATS) in the town and his brother. Their bodies have been deposited at the Mampong Government Hospital.
CID takes over investigations of JB Danquah's death
The Criminal Investigations Department, (CID) of the police service have taken over investigations of the murder of the NPP MP for Abuakwa North, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu. The late JB Danquah Adu was stabbed Tuesday dawn around 1.00 am on February 9, 2016 at his Shiashie residence in Accra. The Greater Accra Regional Police command has been in charge of the case, but is handing over all evidence gathered to the national CID. Meanwhile, all the suspects, but one have been granted bail. The security man at the gate of the late MP is still being held for interrogation.
AngloGold Ashanti asks for troops protection for workers
Mining giant, AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) has asked for troop protection in Obuasi following an attack on workers of the company by illegal miners resulting in the death of the Communications Director of the company,Mr John Owusu. The government withdrew the military from the mine on Tuesday, 2 February, after an initial incursion on 30 and 31 January 2016 by illegal miners.
DR Congo President rewards CHAN champs with cars
The playing body and the entire technical bench of DR Congo have been rewarded by the president of the country, Joseph Kabila. President Kabila on Tuesday surprised the entire country when he presented brand new Toyota Prado four wheel drive cars each to the members of the winning team. DR Congo beat Mali 3-0 to win their second Chan tournament since last winning the inaugural 2009 tournament.
