NFL appeals officer James Thrash ruled on Wednesday that the star wide receiver's actions against the Carolina Panthers last week warranted a ban.

Though Beckham engaged in a personal battle with Carolina cornerback Josh Norman throughout the Panthers' 38-35 win, a late helmet-to-helmet by the receiver was his major offence.

In a statement, the NFL cited "multiple violations of safety-related playing rules" as the reason for rejecting Beckham's appeal.

NFL officiating chief Dean Blandino said Tuesday that Beckham should have been ejected from the game.
