Blackhawks, Lightning extend winning streaks

The Chicago Blackhawks are on the best NHL winning streak in their 90-year history after a 4-1 win over the Nashville Predators.

Tuesday's win means the Blackhawks are now on a run of 12 successive wins as they attempt to claim back-to-back Stanley Cup's.

Patrick Kane tied his record of goals in a season (30), with Artem Anisimov, Richard Panik and Andrew Desjardins adding the others for the Blackhawks.

Kane is the first player to reach 30 goals this season, while his assist for Anisimov extended his points tally to 71 - which is also a league high.

"It's been good, nice to reach that number," Kane said. "I think I was close the past couple years and got hurt, so it was nice to reach that.

"But more importantly I think getting the franchise record of wins in a row, it's pretty special and something that we can all be proud about.

"It's fun to win 12 in a row. I think it's fun when you're winning games, and you want to keep building on it."

The Tampa Bay Lightning extended their own winning run to six games thanks to a 6-4 win over the Edmonton Oilers.

There were 10 different goalscorers in the contest, with Brian Boyle scoring the game-winning shorthanded goal at seven minutes, 42 seconds into the third period, before Alex Killorn wrapped up the result with 27 seconds to go.

Matt Hunwick scored with 7.5 seconds left in the third period to help the Toronto Maple Leafs seal a 3-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers.

After going behind, the Maple Leafs rallied to take a 2-1 lead before Shayne Gostisbehere tied the game, but Hunwick managed to score right at the death to snap a five-game losing streak for Toronto.

In other results, the New York Rangers needed overtime to beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-2, Nicholas Backstrom scored a double as the Washington Capitals defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 6-3, the Boston Bruins got up over the Montreal Canadiens 4-1, while the Los Angeles Kings edged the Dallas Stars 3-2.
