After South Africa were condemned to series defeat against England, India are set to become the world's number-one ranked Test side.

India will ascend to number one in the ICC Test rankings at the conclusion of South Africa's series with England, which the Proteas lost following defeat at the Wanderers on Saturday.

Stuart Broad's devastating 6-17 on day three in Johannesburg set England up for a seven-wicket win in the third Test, a victory which earns them a 2-0 series lead with one to play.

Even if the Proteas restore some pride with a win in the final Test at Centurion, which begins on Friday, India will usurp them at the top of the rankings.

Their stay could be brief, however, with Australia poised to return to number one if they claim victory in the two-match series against New Zealand, which gets under way next month in Wellington.
