Dr. Ahmed Mustafa has stated that the long awaited sports bill won’t be effective in eradicating problems related to the running of the various sporting disciplines in Ghana, should individuals fail to support governing in the financial aspect.
Budget allocated for sports over the years has suffered reduction, making it impossible for the ministry to satisfy the financial demands of the various federations in sports, especially the lesser known ones.
Ghana as a country has no law that enforces government to invest a specific amount on sports and attempts over the years by various ministers of the sector to attain this feat have fallen through, but under Ahmed Mustafa’s watch the bill for the first time went to the cabinet.
And it is the thinking of most Ghanaian that the bill is the solution to all sports related issues in the country, but Dr. Ahmed Mustafa believes although the sports bill has a major role to play in the ensuring government pays particular attention to the sector, it is also incumbent on everyone to help finance sports in Ghana.C
“It is the responsibility of everyone to help in financing sports. Even if the sports bill is passed and other stakeholders refuse to play their role in investing in the sector, the problems will still be there,” the sports minister told Asempa FM.
He added by hailing the Black Queens team and the Men’s tennis team that won gold at the All Africa Games held last year in Brazzaville.
“I must say that one good thing that happened to sports was the Black Queens and the tennis team that won gold in the All Africa games. They made the nation proud,” he added.
