Wood revealed after Saints' final Premiership match against Gloucester that he would be going under the knife to resolve a problem that ruled him out of England's tour of Australia.

The 29-year-old, who was overlooked by England head coach Eddie Jones for the Six Nations, revealed that the operation was a success.

"Incredibly humbled by all ur messages of support. Everything went to plan and I'm on the mend. Huge thank you to everyone @SpireBristolHos." he tweeted.

"I do somewhat regret betting the anesthetist he could put me out within a minute, think he gave me a few for luck."
