According to her, it is great that there is a change of government because the country was then in a miserable state.

"I am happy there is a change...I am very happy...because you can't have a situation where we claim to be doing well, calling ourselves lower middle income group, and [live] in a miserable situation," she told Accra-based Joy FM.

"I went round the country and I saw poverty staring at me...the likes of poverty that I hadn't seen since 1982(3) and it gripped my heart and touched every part of my body that this has to change."

"...You leave Accra and the situation is miserable...no capital city in Africa have I seen this kind of filth like it is in Accra... Filth engulfing us. Ghana was not like that. What has brought us to this situation that we steal everything and we can't even clean our city," she lamented.

The 2016 Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP) further called on Ghanaians who feel that the current government has underperformed since assuming power to be patient as the president has four years to deliver.

"A party has taken eight years to destroy us and you expect somebody to use 100 days to fix it?" she asked, adding that the president, Nana Akufo-Addo should be allowed to transform the country.

In the run-up to the 2016 election, Mrs Rawlings who broke away from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to form her own party, labelled accusations on members of the NDC, calling them corrupt and undeserving to lead the country.

She has subsequently indicated that her husband, Mr Jerry Rawlings was not happy with the way some party members treated him.
