Minority will hold Nana Addo accountable - NDC MP

The NPP secured 171 seats as against the 104 secured by the NDC in the December 2016 election.

Member of Parliament for Banda constituency in the ‎Brong-Ahafo Region, Ahmed Ibrahim, said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would play the role of a constructive opposition and hold the President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo and his government accountable.

He said, "As for the NPP, we will put pressure on them to fulfil all their promises and I am sure along the line, they will limp to give the NDC a chance to come back to power. So come what may, 2020 the NDC will come back to power."

In a radio interview, he added that, "I am telling you on authority that we (NDC) will force them (NPP) to play nonsense and that will give us the chance to return to power."

"They say they have a comfortable majority but they will have their way and we will have our say. Be on the lookout, the NDC will put government on its toes," Ibrahim said.

However, Majority and Minority leaders in Parliament for the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana have been nominated and endorsed by MPs.

The Seventh Parliament would be constituted today [Friday] January 6, 2017, ahead of the official swearing-in of President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo, on Saturday, January 7, 2017.

President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo in consultation with the Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has nominated former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Prof. Mike Aaron Oquaye as the next Speaker of Parliament.

For a candidate to emerge as Speaker, he or she must have been elected by members of the House or persons who are qualified to be elected as a member of Parliament.
