Peacock offered to resign after Hull KR's Super League

Super League veteran Jamie Peacock has revealed he offered to resign from his position as Hull KR head of rugby following the club's relegation from the top flight.

Peacock, highly decorated from his stints at Bradford Bulls and Leeds Rhinos, came out of retirement in a bid to help Rovers retain their Super League status.

However, Rovers' efforts ultimately proved fruitless as, despite taking an eight-point lead into the closing minutes of the '£1million game' against Salford Red Devils at Craven Park, the visitors completed a remarkable comeback to secure a 19-18 victory in golden point.

And Peackock, 38, has now released a statement via the club's official Twitter account, vowing to carry on in his role as they aim for an immediate return to Super League in 2017.

"Saturday was a devastating day for me and the club," said Peacock. "To be in the dressing room with grown men, wives and children crying is not what sport is about.

"I always want to be accountable for my actions in life and offered my resignation after the game. This was turned down which means I can continue my journey with this great club.

"While relegation hurts, it allows the club to build rock solid foundations that will enable this club to rise again and become a force within the game."
