Panova, who eliminated top seed Elina Svitolina in the first round of the tournament, was taken to the limit by Perrin but prevailed 7-6 (9-7) 7-6 (9-7) after two hours, 21 minutes in Bogota.

The Russian built up a 5-2 lead in both sets, but Perrin came back twice to force a tie-break in each.

Perrin managed to hold set points in both the first and the second, though Panova held her nerve to shut out the Swiss and complete the victory, earning a last-eight showdown with Paula Cristina Goncalves.

"My opponent played really well, she has a really heavy forehand," Panova said about the 20-year-old Perrin.

"I got really unlucky when I was trying to close it out with 5-2, but she was playing really well, nothing I could do. Just fight."

Amra Sadikovic - competing in her first WTA event since retiring in 2014 - made it to the quarter-finals with a 6-4 6-4 win over Rebecca Peterson.

Joining her in the quarter-finals is Sachia Vickery, who knocked out seventh seed and two-time winner in Bogota Lourdes Dominguez Lino after a 6-0 2-6 6-3 victory.

American eighth seed Anna Tatishvili also suffered an early exit, beaten by Silvia Soler-Espinosa 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 6-1.
