Paralympics: RPC loses request to Swiss Federal Court
The Swiss Federal Court has rejected a request from the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) to issue a temporary injunction that would have allowed the nation's athletes to compete at the Paralympic Games.
Russia was banned from competing at the Games in Rio by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) following allegations of state-sponsored doping made in an independent report commissioned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
The RPC saw an appeal rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on August 23, with CAS stating at the time that "the RPC did not file any evidence contradicting the facts on which the IPC decision was based."
Having failed in its appeal to CAS, the RPC took its case to the Swiss Federal Court in a bid to allow Russian competitors to feature at the Games.
However, an RPC statement read: "The Swiss Federal Court rejected the request of the Russian Paralmypic Committee for interim measures, which were to ensure the participation of Russian athletes in the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
"[An appeal was made] to the Federal Court with the request to take urgent interim measures to allow Russian admission to the Games. Today, the Court rejected the application."
