Usain Bolt’s final solo run did not end on a high, as he could only manage third-place in the final of the 100m race.

The world athletic championships was brought to a standstill on Saturday after sprinting king Usain Bolt was beaten in the final of the 100 metre race.

The Jamaican came in third-place behind 21-year-old American Christian Coleman and eventual winner Justin Gatlin.

In what was Bolt’s final solo run, before going into retirement, many had hoped for a fairytale ending to his illustrious career, and expected an easy win in London.

However, everything was ruined after the 30-year-old made a poor start to the race, and eventually ended up chasing shadows – ultimately finishing in third place.

Bolt could only win bronze after making a time of 9.95 seconds. The historic night would, however, be made his after fellow competitors accorded him the respected he deserved for his outputs over the years.

Justin Gatlin, amid boos from the London crowd, could not believe what he had achieved, but was quick to acknowledge the status of Bolt in 100m racing history.

Gatlin – in the aftermath of his victory – walked up to Bolt and knelt before him, paying homage for everything the Jamaican has given to the sport.

It was a truly emotional scene, with both men set to be in action again this week in the 4x100m relay – Bolt’s final run before he retires from the sport.
