The former England Test captain has penned a two-year contract extension that was announced by the Stars on Thursday and comes on the eve of their all-important last-four clash against the defending champions.

No man has hit more runs for the Stars than Pietersen in the last two years, knocking 480 since joining the club, and he won the club's player of the year award last season alongside John Hastings.

Stars head coach Stephen Fleming was delighted to lock down one of his biggest names and talents for another two editions of the BBL.

"Kevin has already made a considerable contribution to the team on and off the field, so to have him for another two seasons will allow us to continue to build and develop the squad with consistency," said Fleming.

"KP wins games and the more game breakers you can have in your squad, the more chances you give your team of winning tournaments."

The big-hitting batsman has made 187 runs so far this season and will hope to lead his club all the way having won the right to host a home semi-final against the Scorchers.
