Policeman allegedly arrests student, rapes her in his home, office, locks her in cell
Police authorities have arrested an officer who raped a female student of the Federal College of Education, Osiele, at his apartment.
ASP John Mafoya, the officer in charge of the Osiele Police Post in Abeokuta, allegedly raped the student in his apartment in the Alanco area of the town.
In a bizarre case of justice, the rape victim, identified as Oluwaseun, was earlier arrested for assaulting one Oladimeji, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the college.
gathered that that Oluwaseun and some unnamed persons had assaulted the corps member for allegedly sexually assaulting another female student who had visited him in his apartment in the Abule Obantoko area of Abeokuta.
According to a source quoted in a Daily Post report, Mafoya ordered that Oluwaseun be detained.
He then took her to his house around 7pm that day and allegedly raped her.
“After raping Oluwaseun in his house, Mafoya brought her victim back to the police post at about 10.30pm, where he again raped her in his office," the source said.
"He then returned her to the cell."
The source added that “it was the girl’s colleagues who raised N3,000 for her bail the following day" after which Oluwaseun kept mum about her ordeal until another police officer encouraged her to make a case for justice.
“She, however, did not discuss her experience with anyone because she was traumatised.
"The only thing she did was to cleverly record the conversations she had with the police officer on her mobile phone.
"Such matter would have died naturally, but it was a policeman at the same police post who gave her the courage to speak up and expose the ASP.
“They reported the rape at the Odeda Police Division and when the CP learnt about it, he ordered a detailed investigation.
“On Monday, May 11, the two persons were brought into the CP’s office. After their explanations, the CP ordered the arrest of the ASP, while investigations continued on the matter.”
But the state's Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, gave a different version of the story.
“The officer was not detained," he said.
"There was an allegation of such against him, and he was called to answer to it.
"The police are still investigating the matter."
Meanwhile, the victim's father said he has written a petition to the Ogun State Commissioner of Police over the matter.
