Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says he is focused on succeeding at Shanghai SIPG ahead of a possible debut on Thursday.
In an exclusive interview with from his Shangai base, Gyan admitted to feeling the weight of expectation that had been thrust upon him.
"Expectation is high because the news of my arrival shook the place. This is a big challenge for me but I am focused and people know what i can do. My success here depends on me going out there and doing what they signed me for.”
Though he arrived in Shanghai last week, Gyan was only able to join his team mates for a full training session on Wednesday and says it was a good feeling.
"Training went ok. The players were very good and the passing was good. It was good to train with my new team mates and even better to touch the ball."
With the speed at which the deal was made, questions have been raised about the fitness level of the striker with his coach Sven Goran Erikkson also particularly interested.
“He [Eriksson] spoke to me about my fitness and I told him I am just back from a holiday . He understands where I am and I am working hard in the gym to get myself match ready” he told .
Match ready could come very fast with reports the ex Al Ain striker could make his debut for Shanghai SIPG as a substitute in their league game against Tianjin Teda on Thursday night.
