USAID supplies farmers with equipment to boost production

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has supplied maize-shellers and multicrop threshers to farmers in the Upper East and Northern regions to boost crop production and reduce post-harvest losses under its Agriculture Technology Transfer Project (ATTP).

Under the project, beneficiaries will pay 30 percent of the machine's cost while USAID takes 70 percent of the remaining cost.

The sheller machine has the capacity to shell 50 bags of maize per hour.

Madam Blessing Kamakolam, Grants Manager of Feed the Future-USAID-ATTP, said the goal is to boost maize production to enhance food security.

She said the US government will continue to support farmers and vulnerable communities to help improve their living conditions.

She advised beneficiaries to handle the equipment to with care so as to prolong their life span.
