The accident occurred while the 23-year-old was on holiday in Dubai last week and he will spend another week in hospital after having the organ removed.

Carty has been a key figure for Connacht this season, with the Irish province sitting third in the Pro12 and set to face Grenoble in the European Rugby Challenge Cup quarter-finals.

The former Ireland youth international has kicked 99 points in 17 appearances in all competitions.

Elsewhere in the Connacht squad, Jason Harris-Wright is available for selection for Thursday's clash with Newport Gwent Dragons after recovering from concussion, while Matt Healy and Sean O'Brien are in the final stages of the return to play protocols.

JP Cooney is also able to play following shoulder surgery.
