The struggling Reds have just one win from their opening six games and sacked Richard Graham in March.

Thorn joined the Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) as an elite development squad forwards coach in late 2015.
The former All Black, part of the 2011 World Cup-winning team, also claimed the 2008 Super Rugby title with the Crusaders.
"I've really enjoyed the ability to have a virtual apprenticeship with the under-20s and the Reds have been very understanding since I arrived at Ballymore," Thorn said.
"I now feel I can use my experience to assist this Reds program."

Thorn joins co-interim head coaches Matt O'Connor and Nick Stiles, who were appointed following Graham's sacking.
