Rangers give Adrian Beltre two-year contract extension
Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre will not be entering the free-agent market following the 2016 season.
The announced on Friday they gave four-time MLB All-Star Beltre a two-year extension.
Beltre's new deal is reportedly worth $36million.
The 37-year-old, who joined the Rangers in 2011, is a four-time Gold Glove winner at third base.
Beltre was batting .310/.370/.571 with two home runs in 46 plate appearances entering Friday's action.
He went zero-for-four with a strikeout in the 11-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.
Beltre, who began his MLB career with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1998, is approaching 3,000 hits and is 49th all-time with 415 career home runs.
His extension likely means a position change for top prospect Joey Gallo, who could be moved from third to first base or outfield.
Mitch Moreland is the starter at first base, but can become a free agent after the season.
The Rangers has a plethora of young talent in the outfield with Delino DeShields and fellow prospects Nomar Mazara and Lewis Brinson.
