Rio 2016: Andy Murray happy with good start

Andy Murray was feeling nervous but got the job done in his Rio 2016 opener against Viktor Troicki on Sunday.

Murray - defending his Olympic gold medal in Rio - eased past Serbian Troicki 6-3 6-2 in one hour and 23 minutes.

The 29-year-old revealed he was feeling apprehensive before the clash, having not played since his Wimbledon triumph at the end of June.

"Obviously, a bit nervous in the first match," Murray said. "I haven't played in a few weeks and it was my first match on hard courts.

"And it was tricky conditions too, it was a bit windy. I did pretty well, it was a good start."

Murray spoke of his pride at being Great Britain's flag bearer for the opening ceremony, but played down suggestions it took a toll on him physically.

"It was alright, it is not that heavy, but obviously it's quite a long lever when it moves around a little bit. You get quite tired quickly, but it wasn't too heavy," he said.

"I got my hands on it 30 minutes before we walked into the stadium. So I got a little bit of practice, which was nice.

"Walking out to the stadium, it was an incredible feeling. I think it went pretty well. The half an hour to 45 minutes before walking out into the stadium, I enjoyed as well.

"It's such a nice atmosphere, walking with all the other British athletes. I am obviously proud to bring the British team out, and I think it went pretty well."

Murray will face Juan Monaco in the second round after the Argentine moved past Bosnia and Herzegovina's Mirza Basic.
