Earning her fourth medal at her first and only Olympics, American Maya DiRado produced a huge upset in finals of the 200 meter backstroke at Rio 2016 on Friday.

Swimming next to favourite Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, DiRado trailed 'The Iron Lady' the whole race until the final five meters before diving backwards to the wall to out-touch Hosszu by 0.06 seconds.

DiRado's time of two minutes, 5.99 seconds is the fifth-fastest time in event history.

Hosszu, who already won the 100m backstroke and 200m individual medley while breaking the world record en route to winning the 400m IM, now has four individual medals.

Hilary Caldwell of Canada earned the bronze with a time of 2:07.54.

American Missy Franklin, who set the world record (2:04.06) at the 2012 London Games, failed to make finals of the event after adding nearly five seconds to her best time in Thursday's semi-finals.
