A 13-year-old student has shot and killed a teacher with a bow and arrow at Joan Fuster secondary school, La Sagrera, Barcelona.

The attack happened on Monday morning at about 9.20am.

gathered that four others, two female teachers and two pupils, were injured in the attack that is being described as the first ever case of pupil carrying out mortal attack on teacher in Spain.

Spanish daily, La Vanguardia, reports that the male teacher, a social sciences substitute, was killed by a "13-year-old pupil, who was also armed with a dagger."

A police spokesman told AFP that "a teacher is dead," killed "by a bladed weapon," just after classes started.

The police did not confirm the reports that the pupil attacked with a crossbow.

Ironically, the attack was carried out on the 16th anniversary of Columbine High School massacre when 12 students and one teacher were killed.

A spokesman for , Catalonia's police force, told The Local that the pupil has been detained by Catalan police but cannot be charged for the attack because he is under the criminal age of responsibility in Spain

"The author of the crime is legally a minor as he is under 14-years-old which means that he cannot be charged," the spokesperson said.

"He will be assessed and be sent to a child detention unit or given psychiatric care."

No motive has been stated for the attack, but pupils have said that the attacker is not known as a troublemaker.
