The British and Irish Lion has been sidelined with a knee ligament injury sustained before the 2015 Rugby World Cup but has been linked with a move away from Stade Mayol, with Cardiff Blues, Scarlets and Wasps all credited with interest.

However, the full-back is expected to stay at Toulon and see out the remainder of his contract with the Champions Cup holders, a solution which has pleased Laporte.

"I have spoken with Leigh and he will be here for next season," he is quoted as saying.

"I told him I wanted him to stay and he agreed. It is good news."

Halfpenny is set to step up his return from injury in the coming weeks and could return in time for the climax of the domestic and European season.

"Things are progressing according to plan. I've been doing a lot of strength and conditioning work on the leg with the aim of running soon," added the Wales international.
