Salford Red Devils put in an impressive first-half performance on their way to a 44-26 home success over Hull KR on Saturday that lifted them from bottom spot in Super League.

The win propelled Salford - deducted six points for breaking the salary cap - up to 10th, climbing above Huddersfield Giants and defending champions Leeds Rhinos, who now prop up the rest of the competition.

Junior Sa'u was the star, scoring a hat-trick of tries as Salford closed to within a place and one point of their opponents, who could not recover from finding themselves 28-6 behind at half-time.

Tries from Sa'u, Rob Lui, Niall Evalds, George Griffin and Josh Jones put the home side in a commanding lead. And Sa'u ran in his second after the break after Ian Thornley had reduced the arrears for Hull.

The gap was reduced to 10 points as Ken Sio and Thomas Minns both went over, but Sa'u's third and Lui's second - either side of Minns completing his brace - put the result beyond doubt.
