According to the EC, names of persons who registered with the NHIS cards will not be deleted.

The Supreme Court ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to clean the voters register in a case brought to it by the former People’s National Convention Youth Organiser, Abu Ramadan.

The court presided over by Chief Justice Georgina Wood ruled that the EC should delete the names of all dead people and persons who used the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards to register to vote. The court also ordered for the deletion of names of minors on the register.

However, there has emerged some divided opinions on the Supreme Court judgement and its accompanying orders.

Some schools of thought believe the court did not cite NHIS card holders as being among those to be deleted. Others however think otherwise.

However, in an interview with Accra-based Cit FM, Abu Ramadan said the EC's stance on the ruling will not augur well for a smooth and peaceful elections. He accused the EC of doing the bidding of the NDC.

"Go through the ruling. Is there any ambiguity. If not for the mischief and the deliberate attempt by the NDC to want to tickle themselves and laugh, which the Commission has happily joined together them to sing that chorus, to think that is the reflection of the court," he said.

He added that "failure to implement the orders of SC in a constitutional interpretation matter, amounts to High Crime."
