Wassa Akropong, a mining community at Wassa Amenfi East District in the Western Region has become a hotspot for Chinese prostitutes according to reports.

The patronage of commercial sex in the area is very high, particularly on weekends, as patrons virtually take over the street.

The sex workers charge between GH¢500 to GH¢1000 a night from their clients who are mostly foreigners and galamsey (illegal miners) operators.

According to some residents, it has become common to find Chinese women between the ages of 18 and 25 at vantage points at night in the town soliciting for male clients.

Reports suggest these foreign commercial sex workers are normally brought in by the Chinese illegal miners in the area.

They explained that the sex workers are now attracted to the place because of the class of people who come to do galamsey business.

A source told Pulse.com.gh that some military personnel who have been deployed from Takoradi were allegedly providing 24-hour security for the Chinese commercial sex workers.
