Sharks respond by beating Penguins in OT

An overtime goal from Joonas Donskoi saw the San Jose Sharks defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins in game three of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals.

The Penguins led twice in regulation time but were pegged back on both occasions by the Sharks at the SAP Center in San Jose on Saturday.

San Jose's win means they now trail the series 2-1, stopping the Penguins from completing a possible sweep.

Ben Lovejoy gave the Penguins a dream start with a rare goal five minutes, 29 seconds into the first period, but the Sharks did not take long to respond.

Justin Braun scored his second goal of the series to tie the game at 1-1 four minutes later.

The Penguins delivered a sucker punch to the Sharks in the closing stages of the second period, with Patric Hornqvist scoring with 53 seconds remaining.

However, the Sharks refused to give up, and Joe Thornton and Donskoi combined to set up Joel Ward, who made it 2-2.

With no more goals in the third period, OT would decide who took out game three.

And it was the Sharks who prevailed on their home ice as Donskoi found the winner 12:18 into the first period of OT.

Game four takes place at the same venue on Monday as the Sharks look to level the series.
