AB de Villiers warned South Africa must "wake up and play proper cricket" and has identified weaknesses in the England side ahead of the final game of a Test series the tourists have already wrapped up.

Stuart Broad blew the Proteas away at the Wanderers on Saturday, taking five wickets for just one run and finishing with figures of 6-17 as the hosts were skittled out for only 83.

England duly eased to a seven-wicket victory on day three to take an unassailable 2-0 lead with one game to come at Centurion.

Despite that crushing defeat, South Africa captain De Villiers declared that England are by no means the finished article and the 31-year-old is determined to salvage some pride by winning the fourth Test - which starts on Friday.

The batsman said: "There's no hiding from the fact England seem to know what they are doing, they understand their roles really well, but there's also no doubt in my mind there are weaknesses there.

"We have exposed some of them over the last few weeks but not enough. Their bowling is experienced but some of the guys have lost some pace over the years, but they are smart and skilled so there are other angles to cover.

"The batting is not 100 per cent best-in-the-world material, there are areas we can expose if we start well with the ball, build up dots. We can find cracks.

"They are not unbeatable, there's no doubt."

He added: "There are no dead rubbers when it comes to Test match cricket. We'd hate to lose 3-0. I think 2-1 sounds a lot better.

"We haven't won a Test match for 12 months. We are rebuilding a bit and trying to find our feet but it’s time for us to wake up and play proper cricket."

England captain Alastair Cook said there is still plenty to play for as the tourists attempt to finish the series on a high note.

"A lot of runs have been scored by Joe [Root] , Ben [Stokes] and Jonny [Bairstow] in this series, which is great, but other guys haven't quite contributed, myself included, and we've got a chance to do that in this game.

"The guys are desperate to shore up their spots so when the meeting comes for the Sri Lankan series they've earned that right. I'm really looking forward to this week to see how people respond to that. We've got an opportunity to see how far we've gone."

Opening batsman Stephen Cook could make his South Africa debut, while wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock is set to return and spinner Dane Piedt will also be hoping to get the nod.

Mark Footitt, Chris Woakes and Chris Jordan are vying to replace the injured Steven Finn in the England side.
