Taylor retired hurt with an apparent side injury having faced just four balls in Wellington on Friday.

The next morning, the 31-year-old tweeted: "Off to get a MRI. Fingers crossed."

New Zealand will be eager for a positive update on Taylor, given their busy schedule over the coming weeks and months.

Three one-day internationals with Pakistan - starting on Monday - will be followed by home ODIs and Tests against Australia in February, while the Black Caps' World Twenty20 opener against India is less than eight weeks away.

Corey Anderson, who struck 82 not out from 42 balls to set up Friday's T20 triumph, said of Taylor: "He was a little bit ginger in the nets. I think he did it playing a reverse sweep and I think he's not too bad.

"The medical staff will have to see the extent of it but he seemed to be in good enough spirits."
