Vodafone laments cable theft

Vodafone says it is partnering the police and other security agencies to check the activities of cable thieves.

In an interview with Accra based Citi FM, the Corporate Communications Manager of Vodafone, Mr. Ebenezer Amankwa explained that the activities of cable thieves affect “all of us,” adding that “Their actions are a setback to national development.”

Vodafone Ghana has lamented about cable theft in its operations, saying it is a “disincentive” to providing quality service to its customers.

In an interview Accra based Citi FM, the Corporate Communications Manager of Vodafone, Mr. Ebenezer Amankwa explained that the activities of cable thieves affect “all of us,” adding that “Their actions are a setback to national development.”

“For us our customers are our key stakeholders and we are serious about giving them the best of service to make them comfortable. Cable theft is a huge disincentive to us since it takes away the required services that must be delivered,”he said.

"It affects all of us, hospitals, schools and security installations have been disrupted due to the activities of these thieves. Their actions are a setback to national development”, he added.

He further revealed that the company is partnering the police and other security agencies to check the activities of cable thieves.

"Working on cable disruptions can take over fourteen days to complete. This is time and money that can be used to add value to business operations to move our services forward”, he said.

Vodafone last year revealed that it has within the past seven years invested US$1.7 billion to strengthen its operations.

According to the company, this basically involved upgrading of network infrastructure.
