Swiss Golubic broke the Italian nine times to pull off a surprise victory and earn a quarter-final against Estonia's Anett Kontaveit, who saw off Zhu Lin.

Danka Kovinic was another seed to bow out on day three, losing 6-3 7-5 to Jennifer Brady, but defending champion Jelena Jankovic made it through along with Ana Konjuh, Alison Riske, Sabine Lisicki and Lesia Tsurenko.

Second seed Johanna Larsson advanced to the last eight of the Korea Open by overcoming Kateryna Kozlova 6-3 1-6 6-2.
